MMORPG - English
"With launch less than six months away, my guess is that TSW is going to take the world by storm and set new standards for excellence in gameplay and engagement in an increasingly tired industry."
Massively - English
"It has a lot of promise, it looks fantastic, it plays really well, and it has me itching to play it. Other MMOs are looking quite bland now. Curse you, TSW... in a good way!"
Rock Paper Shotgun - English
“The world doesn’t just contain one story, or even hundreds, the world is the story
and it will continue in every conversation that attempts to understand how the world works, and what ties all these myths together.”
Destructoid - English
"How about something new? Something modern? Let's not do the class-based thing or get hung up on things like levels and roles. How about something massive and non-linear that's totally open to many styles of gameplay? I'd love a huge story that would support gameplay for years to come. I think Funcom is on the right track with all of this in The Secret World."
The Escapist - English
“It's an ambitious project looking to shake up the genre with a modern-day setting and an atypical approach to character development."
GamePro - English
"From its outset, The Secret World aims to leap over the fences that cage our ideas about what makes an MMORPG..."
GameSpy - English
“The Secret World has a lot of ideas that set it apart from its competition, but this adventure awakened the dozing academic that I thought I'd smothered beneath copies of Kant and Darwin. It felt fresh, it felt innovative, and it even felt fun.”
G4TV - English
“…The Secret World is aspiring to do things and to go places that we haven't seen yet in most MMORPGs.”
VideoGamer - English
“For all of its gothic leanings, the game is funny, strange, and easily one of the most distinctive MMOs of the last ten years.”
ZAM - English
"If the content quality of The Polaris is a good indication of TSW's later dungeons, I can honestly say that Funcom has some of the best visionaries in modern dungeon design."
IGN - English
"I really quite enjoyed the system, though I only had access to a very slim portion of it. I'm definitely looking forward to filling the wheel out when The Secret World comes out in April next year."
Eurogamer - English
"The real fun is in selecting your 'deck' of skills. You have slots for seven active skills and seven passives, filled from an expanding range as you spend the skill points awarded instead of experience - there's no explicit levelling in the game - on new toys. Skills are bought from a radial wheel (a showpiece of The Secret World's exceptionally slick and pretty UI)."
GamesRadar - English
"It does look extremely promising though in terms of the story, setting and gameplay and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with it."
PC Gamer UK - English
"The Secret World is an MMO that’s eager to innovate and diversify."
NowGamer - English
"[we] are staggered by the level of authentic detail on display."
